What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The treatment is performed in a relaxing atmosphere, much like a massage, the Reiki professional then lays their hands on the client and expells their positive life force energy through their fingertips and into the client.

"When I started practicing Reiki in the mid 1990’s I noticed that when I was giving someone a Reiki treatment, my dog and two cats loved being in the room; in fact, they insisted. My dog, a shepherd mix, was just so hyperactive that, at first, I didn’t want her to distract from the warm, peaceful atmosphere that a Reiki treatment creates. I did relent and let her sit in; to my surprise she lay peacefully on the floor along with the cats. Like all discoveries, great and small, I had stumbled across the fact that Reiki treatments would be beneficial for animals also. I have been performing Reiki on animals ever since then and it has helped my dog, Sara, pass over. One of my cats, Shadow, is 14 years old and the Veterinarian does not believe that he is that age because he is still so healthy, but I know we got him in 1994 because my daughter started college that year. So I have seen the effects of Reiki treatments first hand!
It doesn’t matter if your pet will not sit still during the Reiki treatment although for the most part they do. As long as they remain in the room with me, they receive the benefit of the treatment. They can wander around if they want, but usually they stay still and enjoy the energy being sent to them."
